The story of my microdosing journey started a few years ago. I had never tried so called "magic" mushrooms before, but somehow knew that I had to explore what they needed to tell me. If I was so willing to try pharmaceuticals, I shouldn't have such fear of a naturally occurring substance that has been ingested for 1000's of years. The downfalls of the pharmaceuticals were exaggerated more for myself as it added to my depressive symptoms instead of relieving them. I wanted relief. My family needed me to get the relief.
Microdosing mushrooms requires several other routines also be created. They cannot do all of the work needed to achieve holistic health. This is the "Inner Work" portion of the microdosing. The inner work can contain several approaches, and may be individualized for the comfort level of the person. I have added another post of what I like to use for my inner work. I knew I needed to start a new routine all together because I am trying to improve my life. With that I also knew I needed to start habits surrounding the inner work before I could incorporate the use of the active mushrooms.
Active mushrooms (psychedelic mushrooms) are a great tool, but not a fix all. And for some people they are the breaking point. It is important to complete your research of your own biological tree to ensure that no other family member has experienced psychotic breaks such as schizophrenia, etc. Once I started to understand that I was going to have to be open to all of the experiences and knowledge the mushrooms would show me to uptake.
I wanted to be able to function in my daily life and not be affected by dosing, so I started small to begin with at a .10mg every two days. I didn't initially "feel" anything, and overall felt disappointed that I didn't. After further understanding I decided to up my intake to .25mg every two-three days. At this amount I was able to feel release in my daily anxieties. I appreciated that I was still allowed to feel my way through the day but not have the weighted feeling of the anxieties following me. This dosing may not be for everyone, but I knew I could tolerate it in my daily life.
The brain can build up tolerance to the serotonin released by the mushrooms. That is where a tolerance break comes in handy. A tolerance break is taking at least a week, if not more, off from the microdosing. You should still continue the inner work, that is something to be done for the rest of one's life.
Sometimes what also helps when it feels like there is more that needs to be explored in totality. That can be done by a properly facilitated macrodose session. The breakthroughs that can be accomplished during these type of sessions help to accelerate the integration of ideas/thoughts/feelings of the time.
The website below helps to outline a core set of methodologies tied to microdosing.
Micro-dosing can be a scheduled action to be completed in a several week rotation. It is always good to incorporate off weeks as the body can build up tolerance to the medicine over longer term exposure. The below infographic contains a general schedule I have found to work for myself and do this for roughly 4-6 weeks.
I do continue taking Lion's Mane supplements daily for the benefits that it provides.
